PowerPoint

Overview

PowerPoint is a presentation program that is part of the Office 365 productivity suite. Find more information about how to access and install the Office 365 apps.

Create Presentation

PowerPoint presentations can be created directly from the Office365 app, OneDrive for Business, or your SharePoint Documents library.  For help with OneDrive, please see the OneDrive pages.

  1. Sign in to the Office 365 Landing page and select the PowerPoint icon on the left edge of the interface.
  2. Click +New and select PowerPoint presentation
  3. To rename the presentation, click the default name and type a new one.

Edit Presentations

PowerPoint Presentations can be edited in either PowerPoint Online or in the full version of PowerPoint installed on your computer. PowerPoint online does not have the full range of options that the full version provides.

PowerPoint Online

  1. Sign in to the Office 365 Landing page and select the PowerPoint icon on the left edge of the page.
  2. Locate the file and click the name.
  3. The file will open in PowerPoint Online where you are able to start editing.
  4. All changes are saved automatically as you work.

With PowerPoint Online, multiple people can make changes simultaneously. You will see changes made in real-time as long as everyone is using PowerPoint Online.

Full version of PowerPoint

  1. While viewing the presentation in PowerPoint Online, click Open in desktop app located until the file title.
  2. Changes can be saved manually or you may select AutoSave at the top-left area of your document. Click on the button next to AutoSave to toggle On or Off

In the full version of PowerPoint, you are not able to make changes simultaneously. Changes must be saved before others will be able to see them.

Share Presentations

Presentations can be shared with others both internal and external to KU. You can decide who will receive access and if they will have read-only permission or the ability to make edits.

Go to our Sharing Files page to step-by-step processes about how to share a file, stop sharing, setting edit and download permissions, and secure sharing.

Accessibility

It's important to ensure your PowerPoint is accessible to all users. You can review the video below. Find more information about accessible files on KU's Content Accessibility page.
